1. How do you like the color of your teeth? This is one of the most important questions that you will need to answer before starting any cosmetic changes. We have beautiful, life-like porcelain and composite materials to create a wonderful smile for you. These materials are color stable, however if you decided later that you wanted to bleach your teeth they do not whiten with your natural teeth. We have color tabs that we use to identify the actual color of your teeth now. Then you can pick out the color that you would like to achieve. Based on this we will have a better idea of which procedures will need to be used to accomplish your goals. Fees and length of treatment time can then be calculated.[top]
2. Is the color of your teeth uniform throughout the tooth? If your teeth show unsightly stains or have areas that are discolored we will determine the cause and suggest a solution. Does it look like you have old fillings that are dark? Could you be seeing untreated decay? Are the stains from heavy use of tea, coffee, or smoking? Were your teeth like this from childhood? [top]
3. Are there spaces between your teeth? Most spaces detract from an attractive smile. It is important to determine the cause of these spaces. Spaces that have developed over time could be a sign of gum disease, or drifting teeth due to a missing tooth. We have many solutions for correcting spaces. Have you had the spaces all of your life? Are the spaces getting larger? Have you had teeth removed and not replaced? Have you had gum surgery that resulted in these spaces? [top]
4. Are your front teeth too short? Short teeth is a common problem when the front teeth are worn excessively. This can make a person look 10 to 15 years older than they are. A proper evaluation of the way your teeth come together is critical to long term sucess of your cosmetic treatment. Have your teeth always been too short? Are you aware of grinding your teeth?
5. Do you have chipped or broken teeth? Chipping or broken teeth can be caused from an accident, damaging habits, grinding at night, or thin weak enamel. We can restore these teeth beautifuly. It is also important to find the source of the damage so we can protect the teeth from future breakage Do you know when your tooth chipped or broke? Do you have any habits that may have caused the problem? Has something caused your teeth to beocme thin and weak? Is it possible that you may be grinding your teeth?
6. Are your teeth crooked? Crooked teeth not only detract from a beautiful smile, they are hard to keep clean and can lead to an increase risk of tooth decay or gum disease. Many times this problem can be corrected without having to undergo lengthy orthodontic treatment. There are some situations where orthodontic treatment whould give you the best results. We can discuss this with you in detail. Do you notice any teeth that are crooked? Is this an area that is also hard to keep clean with floss? Is your eye continually drawn to the crooked teeth? Do you hide your smile because of the crookedness?
7. Are you pleased with the shape and position of your teeth? This is one area that a little change makes a huge difference! I have seen smiles transformed just by correcting the shape or position of key teeth. Many times this can be accomplished with conservative procedures that are easy on your budget. Do you see any teeth that appear to be shaped or positioned differently than the other teeth? Open your mouth slightly so you can see the outline of your teeth. Does the outline of any tooth look different than the others? Do any of the teeth look like they are angled differently?
